Civil War Veteran Passed Away in This City - Funeral Services Held at Hoover Chapel this Afternoon; Burial at Pierce, Oklahoma
T D Choat, 83, passed away Saturday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs H A Lamb, 819 Belle Street, following an illness of only a few days. Funeral services were held at the Hoover Undertakers Chapel this afternoon at 3 o'clock with Rev Walter Reed officiating.
The widow of the deceased will leave this evening with the body for Pierce, Oklahoma for burial. Mr Choate was born Nov 21, 1841 in Lawrence Co., Tn. When the war broke out he volunteered on the Confederacy side November 30, 1861 and was soon made Sergeant. He was wounded in the left elbow at the Battle of Richmond August 30, 1862 and was honorably discharged Jan 13, 1864. On December 24, 1865 he was married to Josephine Pullen. In 1865 he joined the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church for 24 years and a deacon for 15 years.
Mr and Mrs Choate recently came to visit their daughter Mrs Lamb. Mr Choate leaves three daughters, Mrs Hugh Lamb of Corona, Mrs Tennie Null, Pierce, Oklahoma, Mrs Lizzie Cleaveland, Dibble, Oklahoma; and three sons Bill of Eufaula, John of Hannah, and Mondo of Snyder, Oklahoma; 43 grand children and 31 great grandchildren to morn his demise.
