- Richard [20] Choate was the seventh child of the ten of Sabret [12].
Richard [20] bought 340 acres on Little River from his Future father-in-law William "Billy" Edwards on 4 October 1826, three days before his wedding. Sarah's wedding dress was handmade and embroidered in Atlanta. They had a large wedding and Sarah's father gave her a negro slave maid to take to her new home as a wedding gift.
Three sons John [26] (Sept 10, 1862), William Thomas [27] (June 4, 1864 Cold Harbor) and Sowell J. (July 2, 1863 Gettysburg) were lost in the Civil War and Joshua Sabret [28] was blinded by a bullet in one eye. Sowell J. [31] never married, John [26] was married and had a least one daughter (Nancy Cornelia??) and William Thomas [27] was married and left behind six children.
Sarah lived in the home of her daughter Charity L. [30] Fender, until Charity's death in 13 Feb 1894. She then lived with her daughter Mary Jane [29] Edwards. At the time of her death she had outlived five of her seven children. A marker in her memory is located in the Center Edwards Cemetery, one mile north of Sparta, located on the Carlyle Higgins Farm. It has the inscription "Gracious Lady".
What happened to Richard [20] Choate is a mystery and no record is available of his burial. "According to hearsay, Richard died in Nebraska (implied as roaming), and at the time, he was reported as being blind."
