Robertson Co., TN Wills, Bonds, Inventories & Sales Books, Volume #7, 1828-1832 Page 482-486 states following:
Will of Edward Choat, Senior - 28 August 1829 - in the name of God Amen, I, Edward Choat, Sr., of Robertson Co, Tennessee being of sound mind & memory & calling to mind that it is appointed for all to die. I reccomend my soul to Almighty God, and my body to be buried in a decent Christian manner...etc.
1st -- I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife, Sarah Choat the house I now live in, also lot where garden is with timber sufficient for firewood & to keep said lot in repair, also to repair the dwelling house & other houses on said lot, also one bed & furniture, 1 tagle, 1 chest, also what house hold & kitchen furniture will be sufficient for the use of the family, 2 plows & gear, 4 hoes, 3 axes, 1 black horse, also as much fruit of the orchard as will be sufficient for family use, also one negro boy, Clinton, one negro girl, Charlotte, to be by her freely possessed & enjoyed during her natural life or widowhood, also 2 milk cows, 2 beef cows, 2 ____, also my stock of hogs for the support of the family.
2nd -- I give & bequeath to my well beloved son Wesley Choat 60 acres of land, that is 40 acres that I entered in Springfield & 20 acres I bought from Nicholas Stone and at the death or intermarriage of my wife, Sarah Choat to be by him and his heirs freely possessed and enjoyed forever.
3rd -- At the death or intermarriage of my well beloved wife, Sarah Choat the negro boy, Clinton & negro girl Charlotte to be equally divided between my two children Patsy Choat & Wesley Choat with all their increase to be by them & their heirs freely enjoyed forever, also the household & kitchen furniture.
4th -- the balance of my land to be sold according to law, by my executors hereafter name and amount of the sale to be equally divided amongst my several sons hereafter named, that is Gabriel Choat, Skelton Choat, Gideon Choat, and Sebert Choat.
5th -- The balance of my negros not heretofore named to be sold according to law and amount of sale to be equally divided amongst my several childrens, that is: Gabriel, Skelton, Gideon, & Sebart Choat, Betsy Simmons, Charity Metlock, Cassy Simmons & Sally Choat.
6th -- One lot of blacksmith tools, 1 rifle gun & shot bag, 1 cross cut saw, 4 new waggon wheels, all the iron belonging to my old waggon to be sold & equally divided among my children, that is: Gabriel, Skelton, Gideon & Sabert Choat.
7th -- My diamed gray mare & a young gray Citizen colt, a stud to be sold to pay my just debts & balance to be divided among my children: Gabriel Choat, Skelton Choat, Sebert Choat, Gideon Choat, Wesley Choat.
8th -- I give & bequeath to my well beloved daughter Sally Choat the bed & furniture she now claims, also a sorrel mare ____ with her increase.
9th -- I give & bequeath to my well beloved daughter Patsy Choat one bed & furniture, also one brown mare with her increase, one saddle & bridle.
10th -- I give & bequeath to my well beloved daughter Sally Choat, saddle & bridle.
11th -- I give & bequeath to my well beloved son, Wesley Choat a straberry roan colt, also one saddle & bridle.
12th -- It is my will and desire that my well beloved sons, Gabriel Choat, Skelton Choat, Gideon Choat, Sabert Choat shall furnish Sally Choat, Patsy Choat and Wesley Choat the above named saddles & bridles, but it is to be understood that Wesley Choat is to bear his equal part out of his share for his saddle & bridle, but Gabriel, Skelton, Gideon & Sebert Choat is to get the other saddles & bridles and to cover the dwelling house where I now live and repair the same out of their part.
13th -- And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my trusty friends, Gabriel Choat, Voluntine Simmons, James Seal & James Shannon, Executors of this my last will & Testament 28th day of August 1829.

Notice the "Simmons" that were witnesses. Gideon's wife Margaret was a Simmons. This is proven in the will of John Simmons (RobertsonCounty, TN Wills, Bonds, Inventories & Sales Books, Vol. #1, 1796-1813, Page 245) which mentions Gideon and Margaret Choat and states that Margaret was formerly Margaret Simmons.

ICW Newsletter #6 -- AUGUSTINE DAVIDSON CHOATE had five daughters in addition to seven sons. One died at age 5, but the other four were married to C.S.A. Vets. Three of them returned. One, J.R. Carothers died at Lynchburg in 1862. Seven sons went-- 4 came home. Two of them went to Arkansas to claim 450 acres specified in AUGUSTINE's Will and one moved across the river, about 3 miles as the crow flies, to Mecklenburg Co., N.C.
